If you're not familiar with the film Pacific Rim (but it's totally amazing and it's two hours of giant robots punching giant alien monsters so like definitely give it a look sometime???) here is a list of terms for comprehension's sake. Contains some world spoilers:
- Anteverse - the eerily brightly-colored dimension on the other side of the Breach, the homeworld of the Kaiju and their creators
- Breach - portal between dimensions through which the Kaiju emerge, joining Earth with the Anteverse
- Drift - mind-melding process in which two pilots join consciousnesses to synchronize with the Jaeger
- Drift Compatibility - personal connection between two pilots that forms a deep, innately trusting bond, enabling them to interface with and control a Jaeger
- Drivesuit - body armor worn by Jaeger pilots to assist in interfacing with the Jaeger itself
- Ghost-drifting - a side effect post-drifting in which a link between two minds remains active but subdued, allowing heightened intuition of the other mind or minds' emotional or physical state
- Headspace - the space two minds share while in the Drift, inherently varied in nature; communication of memories, emotions, and so forth can happen here or verbally
- Jaeger - mobile weapon created specifically to combat Kaiju; basically giant fucking robots
- Kaiju - genetically engineered amphibious alien sea monsters built specifically to wreck shit
- K-science - shortened form of "Kaiju-Science"; science division for the detection and analysis of Kaiju
- LOCCENT Mission Controller - officer in charge of information relay during combat
- Neural Handshake - final step in a successful drift, in which the drifting minds are bound to the machine and to each other
- Pons Communication System - the technology that makes drifting between minds possible
- PPDC - short for "Pan-Pacific Defense Corps," a UN-created organization representing twenty-one countries, devoted to the destruction of the Kaiju and the defense of humankind
- R.A.B.I.T. - acronym for "Random Access Brain Impulse Trigger," or the process of latching onto a specific memory while drifting; highly dangerous as it can jar the pilots involved out of alignment and induce flashbacks
- Ranger - a Jaeger pilot
- Shatterdome - headquarters of the PPDC to maintain the construction and repair of Jaegers
